Prolific Academic Review – Get Paid To Take Surveys For Academic Research!
In my search to find genuine and legitimate ways to make money online I came across a site that has a unique way for allowing you to earn money through taking surveys. It definitely differs from other survey sites I’ve used in the past, and as you continue to read my Prolific Academic Review you’ll find out why.
What Is Prolific Academic?
Prolific Academic is a site that allows you to participate in surveys and studies for academic research and is supported by Oxford University. Genuine researchers upload their studies onto the site in order to get the right participants…you…to be involved in their study. As a participant, you are rewarded for taking part.
How To Get Started?
It’s quite easy to get started with Prolific Academic. Once you’ve opened the site via the link above you click on “Sign up as a participant” to create your account. You can also choose to sign up via Facebook.
Sign Up As A Participant
When you’ve signed up, follow the instructions to set up your account. You’ll need to verify your account with your email address and phone number, and you can also verify using Facebook if you wish. (You get more information as you set things up).
In case you’re wondering, the phone number is only for verification purposes and since signing up I have not received any marketing texts from them at all. Furthermore, you’re asked to verify your account in order to build trust within their community.

Once you’ve verified your account you’ll be able to complete your profile by answering some short and simple pre-screening questions. By building your profile you’ll be given more eligible surveys. Furthermore, in order to receive payments, you’ll be able to add your Paypal email to your account.
What Makes Prolific Academic Different To Other Survey Sites?
Gives You Surveys You’re Actually Eligible For
Unfortunately, with most survey sites, you get started with the survey only to find out minutes later that you don’t actually qualify. Well, Prolific Academic will give you surveys that you are eligible for, and in my experience, I’ve never been stopped from completing a survey due to ineligibility.
They’re Involved In Scientific and Academic Research
With Prolific Academic, you get to be involved in scientific and academic research. As someone who studied a science-based course at University, I do find it quite exciting and inspiring to be a part of someone else’s research in this way, and then to get a rewarded for it. I’ve personally found the surveys to be more interesting than surveys you get from most other paid survey sites.
You Can Earn Money For Yourself and/or For Charity
This is definitely something that makes Prolific Academic unique in my opinion. You can choose to donate the money you earn to charities online. You could be doing good for your community as well as helping a fellow academic in their research.
You Won’t Get Away With Not Paying Attention
The surveys and studies here are by genuine university students and researchers, so you need to pay attention to your responses and make sure you’re giving as accurate information as you can in order to get rewarded for your time. Luckily the surveys are quite interesting and so it’s not too difficult to stay engaged in the study.
You Can Know Your Eligibility For A Survey Before Taking It
In the “Studies” section you’ll be able to see what surveys are available and what surveys you are eligible for. You get to see if you qualify for a survey even before you start it. This means you don’t waste time filling out long-winded pre-screening surveys that lock you out halfway through because you didn’t qualify.
You Get Additional Information About The Survey/Study
You get information about what you will earn for completing the survey, as well as what that is equal to at an hourly rate. You can further see how long the survey will take, and the timeframe the researcher is willing to give you to complete the study. (see screenshot below)

Pros
The Studies Are Created By Researchers With A Student Email
This shows that the studies are created by real students who are looking for genuine participants for their research. This personally made me feel more comfortable getting involved with the site.
Studies Have An Estimated Time of Completion
One of the things I like about Prolific Academic is that they provide an estimated time of how long it’ll take to complete the survey. Many times you’ll be able to complete it sooner, but at least you can see how long it might take.
Low Payment Threshold
You only need to reach £5 before you can cash out which is quite low and you can make that quite quickly. One thing to note is that there is a payment fee taken when you cash out anything less than £20, so I’d personally recommend you wait until you’ve reached £20 to avoid any PayPal fees.
Pays via Paypal
I’m a big fan of any program that pays via PayPal, so it’s another reason why I like this site. (Update: Payments cashed out via Paypal include a 2.9% + 20p transaction fee. To avoid this fee you can now cash out using Circle)
Only Complete Surveys You’re Eligible For
As mentioned previously, Prolific Academic are very good are giving you surveys/studies that you always qualify for. I have never been locked out of a survey because I didn’t qualify, which is a common theme with most survey sites. So I’m glad that I’ve never had this problem, and it’s been like that for most (if not all) users of Prolific Academic.
You Can Earn Money For Charity
One of the things I like about Prolific Academic is that you can earn money for charity. So you can choose if you want to earn the money for yourself or if you want to donate it.

Cons
Surveys Aren’t Always Regular
Most times you’ll receive email updates of new surveys, but sometimes there are studies that are filled before emails can be sent out, so you may not always have surveys available. One way around this is by visiting the site one or two times a day to see if there are any new studies available.
As they are looking for specific demographics you may not always be eligible for the current surveys, but it’s always good to check in every once in a while as there are new studies being posted daily.
How Much Can You Earn?
In regards to how much you’ll earn, you can generally expect to earn between £0.30 – £2 per survey, and I’ve personally seen some studies pay up to £4 each.
Payment Proof
I’ve included a screenshot of my payment proof to Paypal, just to show you that this site is legit and a genuine way to make some money online. I was able to cash out £20.41 and received payment within a few days.
UPDATE 2017: Prolific has now added Circle as a cashout method. Paypal payments require a 2.9% + 20p transaction fee. But with Circle, there is no fee involved once you reach £20. See below for payment proof using Circle.
My Final Thoughts
Overall I think Prolific Academic is a good legitimate site to use if you’re looking to make some additional money online. It differs from most survey sites in a positive way, which is why it’s one of my favourite sites to earn money from.
Do I Recommend Prolific Academic? YES! It’s really easy to get started and a nice way to supplement your income, while also helping academics with their research. I also like the idea of being able to donate your earnings for charity, and I think this is a really great touch. Clixsense Review 2016 – Is It The Best Paid To Click Website?
UPDATE July 2017: Unfortunately, you can no longer earn via the Paid To Click (PTC) ads and Clixgrid methods.
What is Clixsense?
Clixsense is a Paid To Click (PTC) site that’s been running since 2007 and pays it’s users for completing different tasks online. Some tasks include viewing ads, surveys, playing games and completing offers. It’s very easy to get started with Clixsense as it’s free to join and simple to create an account. Once you’ve signed up you can begin earning right away.
Can You Really Make Money Online With Clixsense?
You’re probably wondering if you can really make money online with Clixsense, and the answer is Yes, you can…however, I wouldn’t want you to quit your day job as the the amount you earn isn’t going to make you rich in any way. For the most part you’ll be earning pennies to view website ads and complete tasks. Although it doesn’t have high payouts, it is a genuine way to make some money online, and I will discuss the multiple ways to earn below.

Ways To Earn Money Online With Clixsense
1) View Ads
The main way people earn from Clixsense is by viewing ads. It’s the fastest and simplest way to earn money on the site and ads usually last between 5-60 seconds.
The length of the ad will determine how much you will earn. Below is a breakdown of the earning potential
5 seconds – $0.001
15 seconds – $0.005
30 seconds $0.01
60 seconds – $0.02
2) Clixgrid
Clixgrid is a grid game whereby you click on random squares within the grid in hopes of winning up to $10. With each square you click you’ll have to view a 10 second ad. After viewing the ad you’ll find out if you’re a winner or not. If you’re not a winner then you won’t earn anything. So a bit of a gamble for your time if you don’t win anything.
Most of the recent winners only won about $0.10 or $0.25, which isn’t very much for the amount of time you spend on the grid. You get 30 chances a day to try and win. I’ve spent some time doing this and unfortunately I’ve never won anything from it so far.

3) Surveys
Another way to earn money with Clixsense is by completing surveys. You’ll be prompted to complete a survey profile, which is just questions that you’ll need to answer about yourself. The aim of this is to provide you with surveys that fit your demographic and to fit you with surveys you’ll qualify for.
However, based on other users review, you’ll still be presented with many surveys that you won’t qualify for, despite filing out the survey profile. So it’s possible you’ll spend ages completing the qualification questions and then finding out that you don’t actually qualify for that survey…that’s a complete waste of your time and you don’t get reward at all for that time.
I personally haven’t tried using the surveys on Clixsense to make money. I tried many years ago, but remember not being very successful with it, so I decided not to even bother with surveys when trying the website out again this time around.

4) Microtasks with Crowdflower
You can also earn money by completing microtasks with Crowdflower. You’ll need to create a Crowdflower account, but you can sign up through Clixsense and it doesn’t take too long.
You’ll be presented with different tasks, but when you first get started the earning potential will be very low. My first task was only paying $0.02, and I was required to transcribe audio.
As you complete more and more tasks, you’ll move up the different levels. As you move up the levels you’ll have the chance to earn more from the tasks. So if you want to use this method for making money it’s encouraged that you stick to it as much as you can at the beginning, as you’ll start seeing better rewards as you move up the levels. I’ve seen some reviews of people making up to $40-50 from microtasks alone…once they’ve reached the higher levels.
Below is an image that shows some potential jobs that are available. As you can see, you have to be at a certain level to complete a few of these tasks.
I’ve only recently begun looking at the “Tasks” section of Clixsense, so I haven’t achieved the levels yet. If I have any new updates regarding microtasks I’ll add them here.
5) Complete Clixoffers
You can earn extra by completing offers which include signing up to websites, taking surveys, entering competitions etc.
6) Clixsense Bonus/Daily Checklist
Clixsense has a daily checklist to help you earn money on a daily basis. This is a good way to earn something everyday, and you can keep track of how much you need to do, and how much you’ve earned for that day. If you can keep up with this on a daily basis, then you could make a nice little bit of money.

Playing Clixsense Games
Clixsense has some games that can be played on the site, however you can not make money by playing these games, they’re just for you to enjoy. I think these can be entertaining to play every now and again.
ClixAddOn
This is a tool that sends notification of any new tasks or offers that you can complete. It can be downloaded for Google Chrome, Firefox and Opera browsers. With this tool it’s more likely that you’ll get more PTC ads and get earlier access to surveys and tasks, because you’ll be notified of them sooner than other members.
So, Is Clixsense a Scam?
Although the earning potential of Clixsense is quite low, it is definitely NOT a scam. Clixsense is a legitimate website, and a real way to make some money online.

Clixsense is completely free to join, and you can remain a free member as long as you want.
Premium ($17/year)
There’s an option to upgrade to premium if you feel you will benefit from being a premium member, which will cost you $17.
Benefits of being a premium member include:
- Higher earning potential
- Some premium users have mentioned having more earning opportunities (i.e. more ads to view), which looks about right based on the screenshot below.
- Paid up to $2 for each referral
- More chance to win Clixgrid. This is because you’re given 60 chances as a premium member vs 30 chances as a free member.

I’d recommend that you only upgrade if you believe/know you’ll be able to get many referrals, and stay up to date with the daily checklist. If you’re not likely to make more than $17 a year then it’s not going to be worth the membership fee.
Who is it for?
Anyone who may be looking to make some extra money online. But I would recommend that you don’t spend hours and hours on the site.
Who is it NOT for?
- Those not interested in PTC sites. – If you don’t like spending time clicking through ads…especially for pennies, then this website is not for you.
- Those who want to earn more than a few pennies online. If you’re someone who wants to have a bigger earning potential then Clixsense will not be for you. A good alternative would be to start your own online business.

You can interact with other Clixsense members within the forum, and take a look at different success stories and payment proofs.

A lot of time required to earn decent income
To earn any decent amount on Clixsense you have to spend a lot of time completing tasks.
Only one account per household
Rarely qualify for a survey
Most people will find that they don’t qualify for a survey, even though they’ve filled out all the profile questions. It seems that the chances of actually being able to qualify for a survey is very low. And in the end, you get no reward for time you spend completing the qualification questions. (Here’s a survey site that pays even if you don’t qualify)
High payout threshold
If you’re not completing surveys, then you might have trouble reaching the $8 threshold…unless you’re lucky enough to win $10 on Clixgrid. Considering you’re paid between $0.001-$0.01 for clicking ads it will probably take a long time to reach that threshold. The best way to earn more is to take part in all the different earning methods.
Tips To Earn More Money With Clixsense
If you’re interested in making money through Clixsense then I want to provide some tips that could help you increase your earning potential
1. Sign up to Premium
If you really want to boost your earnings, then you could consider signing up to premium. It’s $17 a year, but you’ll be able to earn more than a free user.
2. Earn more with Referrals
This is probably the best way to earn more with Clixsense, and it’s the method that most Clixsense members use to maximise their earnings. The referrals would have to be active in order for you to earn. So the more referrals you have, the more likely you are to earn more money.
3. Buxenger
If you haven’t heard of Buxenger before, it’s basically a very useful app that allows you to speed up your earnings from viewing ads. You can also use it to manage your Clixsense account and any other PTC accounts you have more effectively. It’s free to join, with the option to upgrade for only $2 a month. This app won’t necessarily make you earn more, but it’ll allow you to earn faster, therefore saving you time to do other things.

My Final Thoughts
Overall, Clixsense is a legit website that allows you to earn some money online…but don’t expect to get rich with it. As you can probably tell, I don’t think it’s something to spend a lot of time on. Maybe you can find ways to make use of the site to fit in with your day to day activities without wasting too much of your time. For example, you can view ads or use Clixgrid during TV ad breaks.
As you can see, it’s very low paying and not really worth a lot of effort. Instead, you could use your time to build an online business. That’s what I do, and I have a free online business training program that you can join to help you get started.
Is Clixsense the best PTC website? Personally, I think it is one of the best PTC sites to earn money from. Although you won’t earn a lot for viewing sites, you still have multiple other ways to earn from the site. Ultimately, if you work hard enough with Clixsense there’s still a good opportunity to earn some decent money from it. So if you feel you can make it work then I’d recommend you give it go.

How To Make Extra Money Online From Home In The UK
I want to share with you some of the ways you can make money online in the UK, working from home.
As someone who lives in the UK, the methods I share will be ones that I’ve personally used myself to make money online, as well as sites that are popular, that others have used to make money online.
Some of the methods I mention pay in $ dollars, therefore they can also be used by non-UK citizens. (Note: You can still cash out from sites that pay in dollars if you live in the UK).
So, whether you’re looking to make some extra money from home, or a way to build a full-time income, here’s how to make extra money online from home in the UK. I’m sure you’ll find a few new methods that will work well for you.
If you continue reading until the end, I’ll share with you the method that made me £500+ in the 2 months as a complete beginner, and is making some people up to £2000 monthly. If you get started today you could earn up to £45 with a free trial.

Whatusersdo:
Whatusersdo is a site that lets you earn money for testing websites. Payment is made through Paypal, and it takes only 5-10 minutes to sign up. If you sign up, you can enter my referral code: 186584

- £5 website test (as of December 2016) – usually takes up to 20 minutes, but this may vary.

Usertesting:
Usertesting is my personal favourite user testing website. At the time of writing, I have made $219 (approx £153) since joining, and I am still able to earn $10-$15 regularly. They pay via Paypal, and it’s free to join. You can start getting tests right away.

Earning Potential:
- $3 for short tests – usually take 5 mins
- $10 per website test – usually takes 10-20 minutes
- $15 per mobile/smartphone test – usually takes 10-20 minutes
Ferpection:
Ferpection is a site I came across a little while ago, and it is a French-based user testing website. I’ve currently made 50 euros (approx £40). Most tests are carried out using your mobile device, and you take screenshots of the site according to the task, then upload the screenshots with your review of your experience. You do not need to have a microphone for this test, this can all be done using your mobile device.
You get paid at the end of each month, usually the last Friday, if your balance is £20+. I’ve already been able to cash out £25 to my PayPal account.
I don’t use this site as often as the others, but it’s still a nice way to earn some additional income from time to time.

MintVine:
Mintvine is my personal favourite survey site online. They are a relatively new survey site, and I am still quite new to the site. I have already cashed out $10.21 and have over $8 so far. (See my review + payment proof here)
There are multiple ways to earn some points, and once you reach 1000 points you are able to cash out $10. You can also check out my video review on YouTube. You can even get points if you don’t qualify for a survey. It doesn’t happen all the time but I think it’s nice that you can get rewarded for that.
Price to Join: Free
Earning Potential:
- 1000 points = $10. Payment through PayPal, or can exchange into gift cards. (Paypal payout can take a little while, mine took over 1 week, but it does pay)
Prolific Academic:
Prolific Academic is a survey site that is based on academic research. Academics, with a valid university email address, give you their research for users like you to participate in and get paid. It’s free to sign up, and it has a low payment threshold of £5, which doesn’t take too long to reach. You get emails sent to you when new tests become available. I haven’t been given a survey that I didn’t qualify for, which is a nice relief compared to other survey sites.
At the time of writing I have already earned £6.20, and if you wait until you reach £20, then you avoid any PayPal fees. (see my review + payment proof here)

- So far I’ve seen survey payments range from £0.50 to £1.00 per survey (Update: You can now earn up to £4 per survey)
InboxPounds:
There are many ways to get paid with InboxPounds, and they include
- Paid surveys
- Get paid to read emails
- Get paid to search
- Completing tasks
- Cash offers
- …to name a few
The emails get sent to your inbox, and when you click “Confirm the paid email”, you’ll get paid. I’ve noticed that the payment is £0.01 per email…but if you complete the offer advertised in the email you can also get paid for that. So far I’ve seen some offers up to £4. You can also get paid to search online using Inbox Pounds as your search engine. You need to have £20 in order to cash out, and you get paid via cheque.

Earning Potential:
- Very low in my opinion, you make more if you spend time doing the surveys and offers, but I personally like to spend my time on other make money opportunities. However, it is nice to get paid to read emails and search online, and it requires very little work. So far I’ve seen up to 4 emails a day, sometimes it can be more. I have yet to cash out, so I’m not sure how long or how simple the process is, but once I do cash out I will do an update.
There is also a US version called InboxDollars which is the essentially the same thing, with a cash out threshold of $30

Selling Products Online
eBay:
I’ve been selling on eBay for over 1.5 years, and in that time I’ve made £6000+ in sales (this isn’t taking into account the cost of shipping and eBay’s fees), and within 1 year I earned Top Rated Seller status. At first, I was selling things on the side and then started turning it into a part-time income.
It’s pretty easy to get started, you don’t need any initial costs, and you can set up a free account here now. You can start by selling used or unwanted items around your house, and once you generate enough you can think about buying and reselling products. I use Aliexpress, DHgate, and Alibaba to purchase my stock to resell. Overall, I prefer Aliexpress, as they have a low minimum order quantity (MOQ), which means you can order in small amounts if you’re on a budget, and sometimes the prices of products you add to your basket or wishlist can be reduced, so you get them at a sale price. It’s definitely worth checking out if you’re new to selling on eBay.
Earning Potential:
- There’s no limit to how much you earn
- When I started with eBay, I made money within the first few hours of listing my product. So if you’re lucky you could make money today from eBay. When putting the cost of your product think about eBay fees and postage costs.
- I recommended following Andrew Minalto for very useful tips about selling on eBay.
Amazon:
This platform is better for selling new products, however, I have made money selling used items too. It’s free and easy to sign up. When pricing your items, Amazon shows you how much the seller fees will be, and how much you can expect to make, which is very handy, so you don’t have to do it all manually. As a new seller, you are restricted from selling some products, such as perfumes, but there are still other products you can sell, and once you become more established, you’ll be able to sell more items. One other advantage is that you don’t have to write descriptions for your item if it’s new, as it’s already available on Amazon. You can also source products to resell from Aliexpress, DHgate, and Alibaba.

Etsy:
I personally don’t have much experience selling on Etsy, but I know there are people who are making a lot of money with it. It’s great if you’re good at arts and crafts, and you can sell your creations on there. Things you can create to sell on Etsy include:

Affiliate Marketing is basically a method of promoting other people’s products and receiving a commission for a sale that is made.
Anyone can get started with affiliate marketing and it doesn’t require any start-up costs. In order to really do well with affiliate marketing you’ll need:
- A website
- Affiliate products
- Training

You can sign up as a free member here, and if you like what you see you can upgrade to premium membership. The great thing is that you can remain a free member as long as you like. TopCashBack:
TopCashBack is my favourite cashback site. A site like this basically allows you to get earn some money back when you shop online. I use it for my online purchases. You can also even earn cashback on some free offers which is nice. If you download the TopCashBack notifier, you can get a pop-up notification whenever you visit a site that is offering cashback, therefore, you don’t need to manually remember to check your cashback account.

Quidco:
Quidco is another popular cashback site in the UK. I usually look here if I can’t find someone on TopCashBack, but most of the time I can. I haven’t used this site much, but I know many people do, and earn a lot.

For Those in the US: You can check out Ebates, which is also a cashback site available to US citizens.
Bonus: Method Which Has Made Me £500+ in just over 2 Months
Matched Betting
Matched Betting is a technique that involves taking advantage of bookmaker offers in order to make a guaranteed profit. So in essence, you are betting on all outcomes of a sporting event, so that no matter what happens, you make a profit. It is a legitimate and genuine way to make money online, which has even been suggested by MSE and Save the Student (which is where I actually first found out about Matched Betting.)
With Matched Betting, I have been able to make £500+ in just over 2 months. There are people who are able to make £1000-£2000 a month with this. I currently do this on the side, and you can get started with as little as £50. The higher you start with the more money you’ll make, but if you’re a complete beginner, and still unsure I’d recommend starting with a minimum of £50-100.

Struggling to make money online?
I feel this is an important topic to delve into, because so many of us ask ourselves, “why am I not making money online?”. So I want to share 7 of the main reasons why you may be struggling to make money online. I haven’t written these to put you down, I have written them to make you aware of what you may be doing wrong, and what you need to improve about your mindset in order to really succeed in the online world.
Reason #1: You Assume That Making Money Online Is Easy
Although there are some sites that you can genuinely earn money from, that require little work, those sites will not earn you a liveable amount. They’re mostly side incomes, something you can do in your spare time to earn a little extra money, to cover a monthly subscription, such as a phone bill.
In order to really make money from an online business, you need to understand and realise that making money requires hard work. Yes, many people are making passive income, however, it took a lot of work and dedication to get there.
Reason #2: You Don’t Really Know How To Convert Traffic To Buyers
Now, I can totally identify with this one. When I first started my Make Money Online journey, I thought the most important thing I needed to do was get traffic to my site, and that my visitors will automatically become buyers. Needless to say, I got it wrong. I spent a lot of time and money on the wrong kind of traffic. I spent ages earning credits manually with traffic exchange sites, and spent hundreds on sites that promised “unlimited traffic”. Yes, I got the traffic, but unfortunately, this was not the traffic I needed if I was going to get people to buy my products.
Things began to change when I joined Wealthy Affiliate. It’s was at this point that I realised that I needed targeted traffic in order to improve my chance of sales, and they teach you how to work towards getting quality visitors who are more likely to buy your products.
Reason #3: You Don’t Realise How Much Time Is Required

Now, if your goal is to earn passive income with your business, then you’ll need a lot of time to get there. Although I am able to make money online, I am still working towards my passive income goals. However, I am not letting the time I have pass me by. Reason #4: You’re Jumping From One Opportunity To The Next
There’s a term used online for this behaviour, it’s called “Shiny Object Syndrome”. That was me at the beginning of my journey. I was jumping from one shiny opportunity to the next, hoping to find the next big thing that would earn me lots of money. In the end, I wasn’t getting anywhere. I wasn’t allowing myself to really progress with an opportunity to see if I could get real results from it.

Reason #6: You’re Not Fully Committed or Willing To Learn
Some people who join the Make Money Online world are just not committed. You need to realise that making money online can be a long process, especially in the beginning, therefore, you need to be willing to stay committed and work hard. If you can do that, then you’ll start seeing the fruits of your labour.
Furthermore, you need to be willing to learn. You need to learn how you’ll maximise your earning potential, and learn how to get better at your online business. From here you’ll get an idea of whether or not you’re willing to learn and be committed towards your business.
Even making money online through surveys, GPT, PTC sites etc, requires commitment, if you only do it every now and again, you won’t see your money grow.

If you’re constantly looking for the easy route, then you won’t be very successful online. Yes, there are ways to make money online with little work, as I mentioned before you can do so through survey sites etc. But to make consistent money online through an online business you need to be willing to work. If you truly want to make money online successfully, then you’ll need to start changing your mindset.

The payment you receive depends on the type of test that you do. There are 5 types of tests available:
Personal Meetings ($ – You set the price):
Usually bigger brands and startups might use this method as a way to get user opinions and feedback in real-time. Because it involves taking your time to commute, the price is open for you to decide how much you’ll want to be paid.
Phone Calls ($35):
The good thing about phone calls is that you get to give live feedback, without having to commute. You’ll be asked to give your experience while using the product on the phone. They usually take around 30 minutes to complete, and shouldn’t take more than 50 minutes
Online Usability Tests ($25):
With this method you will be providing feedback on things such as product design. It will usually take around 10-20 minutes to complete, but some can be up to 30 minutes.
